Visitation Program

As the Hawaiian language movement has grown since inception in the mid-1980s, it has become a viable model for other language revitalization and normalization initiatives nationally and internationally that have a strong focus on native language medium or immersion schools and education programs as a foundational component.

Visit the Ku‘ikahi

Our Ku‘ikahi, or consortium, has hosted numerous groups looking to observe and learn about the Hawaiian program as a means to further their own efforts. We facilitate visitation at:

  • ‘Aha Pūnana Leo

  • Nāwahīokalani‘ōpu‘u

  • Ka Haka ‘Ula o Ke‘elikōlani Hawaiian Language College

  • ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center

Matching the language profile

While Hawai‘i’s program may not be the best model for all, diverse partners have benefitted from visiting one of our Ku‘ikahi members. Particularly those whose native language profile is similar to the Hawaiian experience:

  • Written language

  • Access to native speakers

  • Repository of native language writings

  • Immersion school approach

More being planned…

These upcoming events, hosted by Mokuola Honua and other Ku’ikahi partners, may also be the perfect opportunity to experience some of the Hawaiian Language movement’s programming.
